Features

The Amphibian Research Centre is a very, very busy place. There is always plenty of interesting activity. When we manage to find a few hours to document bits of it, we hope to be able to show it to you here.

It was the passion for frogs of Gerry Marantelli that led him to establish the Amphibian Research Centre as a "backyard business". It steadily grew to occupy several garages and sheds and eventually the whole house and a second property. Prior to the ARC's move to larger and more suitable premises at the wetlands in Werribee, we conducted a virtual tour of the good ol' ARC in Coburg.

The Amphibian Research Centre has pioneered the refurbishment and use of insulated shipping containers as amphibian enclosures and research laboratories. The ARC has many of its own on-site (forming the threatened-species area) and has constructed several others for use by other organisations. Find out more in this tour-based sales pitch.

The story of Tiddalik

Tiddalik is a character from the Dreaming, stories told by Australian Aborigines about the history of this country. The legend of Tiddalik is not only an important story of the Dreamtime, but has been the subject of a popular modern children's book. Hear Lydia Fucsko reading a short (4.5 minutes) version of the tale.

Frogs live in some amazing places. Lydia Fucsko has written a song about one of the strangest.
